19 weeks pregnant and running
Well...I went running today. I started way to fast and then realized if I was breathing so hard the baby probably wasn't getting much oxygen so I walked for a bit and then jogged really slow for the rest of my run. I think I ran about 1 1/2 miles and walked 1/2 mile. It was really nice but I'm not sure if I should keep it up or just start walking again. Who knows. I am excited to find out what we are having on Thursday. Hope all is well.

getting back on track
I decided that it's time to get back on track. I've spent too much time putting everything else first that I've lost a lot of what I had gained. I started doing the kbell workout this week. It's draining me to do the 25 minute workout but I'm doing it. This weekend I hope to do some walking if not running. I've been thinking about getting my walking speed and distance up before I focus on running again.

Swimming and Water Aerobics
So I have had my first week of school this week. I have my swimming and water aerobics classes. I can't believe how much i am out of shape for swimming I am. I am so excited for the classes to get in full swing because the water aerobics class is much more intense then at hagerman partially due to the water temperature. I never would have thought of doing tybo in water but that is what we are doing along with alot of other cardio type stuff. The only down side is I have burned everyday this week because I missed somewhere with the sunscreen. But I am going to enjoy the sunshine as long as we have it. Or at least until they put the bubble up and we no longer have the sunshine.

green canyon
So I went down to logan this weekend. On saturday we went walking/hiking in Green canyon. It was a nice refreshing walk I don't know how far we went but my legs are still sore which means that I didn't stretch enough and I am not used to inclines for that long of a time.

Wonderful Walk
This morning I woke up and walked over to the park behind our house. It has a nice path that goes around the perimeter of the park and I haven't really known the distance of the path until today. I took Craigs gps watch and found out it is about 1/4 mile around. I walked a distance of 3 miles. It was wonderful. I have really been struggling running and doing my workout video so this walk is perfect. I am going to try walking at least 3-4 miles a day to help me stay active.

New days new runs
So in Ohio Melissa and I went for a run and I convinced her to take the dogs with us. It was a fairly good run we only went a mile or so but it was nice to be able to run with the dogs and Melissa although I could have done without the Humidity.
Today Kathy and I went for a run we had Kade, Violet and Dixie with us so we didn't do the whole route that Erik suggested. We went up a lot of hills and down a few. Violet had to take a bathroom break and so Kade and I went around the church four times running full speed ahead or at least I did because I wanted to try and stay ahead of kade on his bike so I had to run pretty quickly so I definately got a pretty good wourk out. We then also did the squat jump things coming up the hill. I can't remember what it is called.

Slacking on the running
So lately I haven't been doing much running because I have been so tired but the last Friday Craig and I went on a three mile run and then yesterday I did the Slim in 6 video again. Talk about crazy. I woke up this morning so sore. I really need to be working harder so I don't blimp up if you know what I mean. Melis I am glad you and Teresa were able to run. Keep it up.

running behind
I'm not even sure when last I blogged my running. Traveling to Idaho really changed the schedule I was trying to stay on. Running at higher altitudes finally got easier jsut in time to head home. I went back to the week three run schedule and was able to do it. On the way home I jumped on treadmill in one of the hotels and actually ran 1.5 miles at an incline of 10% and a speed of 5.5. to 6. I only had to stop once and that was because my calf muscles got too tight. I stretched and then hopped back on to finish the run.
Since getting home all of my energy has been put into the new house but tonight Teresa and I went out running. We took Morgan(9 year old, overweight dog) and Norton(11 month puppy) running with us. Poor Morgan was so winded by time we got home. I'm happy to say I was able to outrun an out of shape dog. Is that something I should be proud of....

way behind no big suprise
So I was just looking at the blogs and realized that I haven't posted anything in the last month although I have been running some. So the month started with the Firecracker 5k/10k on July 2. I had decided that I would to the 5k after talking to Cynthia I realized that I could probably do the 10k but would enjoy the 5k better. Then after getting there was allowed myself to be talked into doing the 10k. The running of it wasn't bad. My feet went numb before the first mile was over and stayed that way until mile 5 or so. The worst part was I had to go to the bathroom so badly that I couldn't even run until I got back to campus as was able to use the restrooms there. I finished dead last but I finished in 1:33 minutes and some odd seconds. I was pretty stoaked about how I ran I even had enough energy to sprint to the finish line. For walking and running at my pace I think that I did pretty good. My goal is to run another one and finish with a better time along with running more of it.
The rest of the month I have ran a few times with Melissa. We ran down to the stop sign at the other Power Plant a couple of times and today we made it almost to the first stop sign but then her calves rebelled on her. So this is my month in review as far as exercising along with doing the kbell workout once with Melis. I will do better next month both with the workout and with posting my workouts.

Running in Idaho
Wednesday Cynthia, Kathy and I(poor Teresa was at work) went running before it got to hot. I think I did pretty good considering the fact that I haven't ran in two weeks and the huge change in altitude. I'm finding that it is a lot harder to catch my breath at the higher elevation. I'm determined to keep at it though.

Running
Today Melissa and I went for a run/walk. It was a lot of fun to be out enjoying each others company on a beautiful sunny morning.

Still Going slow but steady
So this is my posts for yesterday and todays runs because last night I finished my run got cleaned up and crashed for the night. So lastnight I ran/walked up to the hagerman horse monument then to the far side of Henslee's corrals. I got to the close side and figured that is wouldn't be that far to the far side I was wrong it seemed like a lot longer when I was running then before. Then today after doing the water aerobics class I decided to run up the hill. I thought I would go up to the top. Until I started up. I got to where the road goes back down for a little bit and decided that it was time to head back. Mom and I checked how far I went and it was exactly 1.5 miles so I went almost half way up the hill. It was a lot longer then I thought it was. Also Melissa don't be discouraged about running for only a few minutes at a time I couldn't even run for three minutes at a time today except when I was going down hill. I got back down the hill much quicker then it took to get up it. i saw about 15 lizards and three semi-flat snakes on the road. I am glad that I didn't see any that were alive. Until tomorrow. Love you all

So I was a little discouraged the other day when after a week of riding my bike to work and doing slim in 6 four days, also mountainbiking I stepped on the scale and gained 5 lbs. I was a bit taken back by this because I feel like I have been working so hard that I should at least have lost 1 lb but I didn't. I took Saturday and Sunday off from working out and it was really difficult to do the workout yesterday. Actually it was quite comical. I was trying to do reverse lunges and I couldn't stay balanced, I was more swaying to the left, right, front and back than doing lunges. Today I did much better. I was almost able to do all of the repetitions of the workouts so it feels better. I was hoping to have lost 5 lbs from my original weight by time we get together in 1 1/2 weeks but that might not work. Just needed to vent a little. Keep up the great work ladies. Just imagine the example we are the kids and nieces and nephews. Also I'm sure this is encouraging for mom and dad. Keep it up. Love. Cynthia

GREEN CANYON BIKE RIDE
Oh yeah. And last Friday when the kids were at Mom and Dads (missed them but YEA!) Erik and I biked the Green Canyon Trail. It was only 8-9 miles (the last one we did was 14 round trip) but it was harder for me. I had to keep stopping to catch my breath. I guess the baby needs oxygen too. But it was fabulous, beautiful and we even forged the water/river/raging stream 3 or 4 times. It was awesome!
Kathy: I started taking an allergy medication (from my doc for my cough) and the cough went away but I could hardly walk around the block I was so fatigued. So the cough is back as is more energy and the meds are out for now. I got myself and Kade and Dixie to to the canal trail early enough Saturday morning that it wasn't too hot. It was great. I had been so tired that I really just wanted to sleep all day but it helped to run and my calves weren't as tired during the run as they have been. Granted, I'm quite slow but I'm still going! I had to post a bit about this chapter I just finished in a marvelous Melis gave me, Scream Free Parenting. It's all about self-love and how in our Western culture we shun this as something too selfish and bad. In reality, it is the only way to be truly healthy, physically and emotionally. It's the only way to take good csre of ourselves and our families. So I thought of all of you who are creating the time to love yourselves by running. The author says,"You may be asking yourself "who has the time?" You don't. That's just more evidence of the problem. You must create the time by choosing to put on your own oxygen mask first." So GREAT JOB GIRLS! We are all learning to love ourselves more which is also what the Savior taught.
loves to you all.
Beautiful Day for a walk
I know it isn't alot but I walked to church today. It was such a beautiful day that I couldn't resist walking. I just need to start wearing my tennis shoes and then changing into my sunday shoes at church. I just always remember this after I have started to walk there. Next time maybe I will remember before hand and save my feet.

Biking portion of the blog
As you know Thursday is my day off. It was a wonderful day. I woke up early to mow the lawn and then Craig and I went Mountain biking for about 2.5 hours. When we got home from that I did my video and then we later went to the park to play volleyball. I can't believe how hard the workout was. I really didn't think I could do it. Then yesterday I woke up and did not want to do the video so instead I rode my bike to work. Thats right a 7 mile bike ride to work and at first I was going to have Craig pick me up when I got off. But then I decided I would just ride home so it was a 14 mile bike ride. It was absolutely wonderful. Craig got me a pair of padded bum shorts for riding the bike and they make the world of difference. Today I am a little sore and it will be my day off for this week. That makes doing the workout video 4 times, running 2 miles, biking 14 + miles, and volleyball multiple times. I love being active and this will definitely help me reach my goal of losing 15 lbs. :) Happy activity to all.
oh the pain...
I went for my Saturday morning run and the walk up Mt. Everest Jr. just about made me turn around and come home. By the time I reached the top my calf muscles were so tight and cramping I could barely walk. But I continued on down the other side and they loosened up enough that they pain was gone so I started doing the walking/running intervals of podrunner week 3. I'd already done the workout three times this week so I didn't figure this morning would be any different. I made it through 3 of the 4 run intervals before I had to call Ken to come get me because my calf muscles started cramping again and I knew I wouldn't be able to make it over the hill again.

I CAN DO THIS!!!
Hey, this post is actually for yesterday but I ran out of time to get it typed. I signed up for the firecracker 10k, 5k race they are having on the 2nd of July. When one of my classmates said that I should do the 10k and my reply was, "I don't think I am going to be able to get up to 6 miles in a week." However after my run yesterday I will be able to do it. It just depends on whether I am wanting to tackle the big hill into the canyon. Yesterday after the water aerobics class I ran/walked home initially at about a two minute intervals and then when I got to henslees I started going by landmards instead of time. What I thought was about a three mile distance was actually 4.6 miles. I did just over an hour good thing too since I wasn't wearing any sunscreen and got burned. So I now will have an awesome tanline. I now know that I can either run the 10k or the 5k. Plus I just got a cool tennis skirt of sale for 75% off. I can't wait to try it out.

Feeling stronger everyday
Hi sisters. I am now on the 1 hour long workout video and when I did it on monday I couldn't do all of the reps. Yesterday was a little better but today I almost did the whole thing. I have set a goal to do the video 6 days a week as they recommend and every other day I am running two miles also. Yesterday was the other day. I thought I would die during the video but the nice thing is it ends with 6 minutes of yoga and that always makes me feel better so I went for a run. I was moving at the pace of a snail which is fine with me because I am still burning more calories than if I stayed home and sat on my booty. I have a goal to lose at least 15 lbs before I get pregnant and I think with this routine that will happen.. No I know it will happen. I am feeling more energized every day..not during the workout because "this is tough" but after. How exciting we can all post about this. I am going to try to get mom in on this too. It would be good for some encouragement. Love you all and keep up the good work...---cynthia
running to escape
I went running twice yesterday. By 8:30 the kids were driving me crazy so we loaded up and went to the park. They played I ran. I have to say running on grass is a lot harder than on the road. I was surprised that I made it through the whole run. Each week the running part gets longer and harder. Week three has you running for three minutes at a time, for a total of 9 minutes of running. Boy that sounds kind of lame that I'm only at running for three minutes at a time, but I'm doing it. Last night Cyndi and I went out again and I did the run again. I actually ran faster and exerted myself more than I did in the morning run.
My new goal is to not only make it through the run but to exert myself more and run a faster pace.

HI girls! I had a great run at 7:30am with my good friend Josie. It always goes faster when you have someone to talk to. We ran the trail and walked only when I was talking...ha ha. Can't run and talk anymore b/c I get to out of breath. Baby thinks she needs oxygen too or something. Josie is good for me b/c she has a good pace--faster than when I go alone. I think I'll go again tomorrow but alone, maybe take Dixie. loves all and keep up the good work! Let's all treat our bodies to some good food if we're working out so hard. Forward, ever onward!!

I didn't do any running this weekend. Emelynn had to take magnesium citrate for three days and because she hates it so much I told her I would do it with her....We didn't go far from the bathroom and running was out. I really would have needed depends if I had tried running. I did run last Thursday. I found a way to run during the day with the kids without having to run. We went over to the school and the kids got to play on the playground and I did my running on the grass field around the playground. They moved to a playground right next to the school after a little while because there was a baby swing and so then I ran the sidewalks there and across the playground to push Alyvia on the swing. I think that would be like trail running. :)

I keep forgetting to post my runs so here's an update. I, Kathy, went to Idaho last week and had 2 run/walks with Teresa. We went farther the first night b/c the 2nd night we took the kids and that added some complications. It was nice and the first night we went for longer, ran some hills and had a good workout. Then I went again sometime this week with Erik. We ran/walked the trail. I'm feeling some pains in my lower abs but don't feel it when I remember to tighten my lower ab muscles. So happy running to you all! And I'll try to post more as it occurs. loves
This Wonderful Week
I am happy to say I did my workout video 5 of the last 6 days. I also ran two miles on Tuesday and Thursday and just ran a Stake 5k this morning. I am feeling more fit every day. I haven't seen any changes on the scale but I know to expect that. I will start the hour long workout video on monday and I am excited to continue to run so when Melissa comes to visit we can all work out together. This week has been rough as far as working out. Every morning when I wake up the first thing I do is workout because I know if I don't it won't happen. Luckily I haven't been sore or had any injuries so I will keep you updated if that is the same after next week. Love you all and continue to work out.

Running with the streetlights
We (Cyndi and I) went running last night after dark so we ran at Lincoln Park, which is well lit and right by the police station. Lincoln Park is a one block wide by two long with a outdoor theater and activity area in the middle. There is also a pond that we did a lap around. We might have done more around the pond if the bugs hadn't been so plentiful. :)
The best part is we started week two of podrunner and lived through it. This definitely gives me hope for upcoming weeks. Week two might not seem like much for those of you who have been running a while and aren't carrying enough extra weight to be one of your kids but to me it was a big deal....we'd run for 90 seconds then walk for two minutes It's funny how the two minutes seemed shorter than the 90 seconds.
Now I'm off to push the mower around the back yard....the front yard took me close to two hours. I can't wait!!

week past
I realized today that is had been a week since I have looked at the blog. So I am doing a quick blog for last week. On Monday for class we had a workout that was so tough I was still sore on thursday. I rode my bike to school and then did the workout within 10 minutes of the workout I was dripping in sweat. Then because I was tired I went a different route homw thinking it would be easier on my tired body when infact it took twice as long to get home because the route was much longer and I was sore. Then on tuedsay I did the slim in 6 workout with Cynthia and her friend. Then had to work on wednesday and was so sore I could hardly squat and all or bend over because my legs were not happy. For class on wednesday we also had a super tough workout were I was dripping with sweat within a few minutes again. So all in all it was an eventful with exercise.

running so I could swim
Cyndi and I went running tonight. This time we ran at my house so she got to experience Mt. Everest Jr.(Cyndi agrees on the name). We did two miles of walk/run. I ended up having to walk more tonight because I started getting cramps in my toes. Does anyone know what to do for toe cramps and pain??? After we ran we decided to get in the pool. It was too cold to swim but it did feel good after being out running in the warm weather.

Thursday Workout
Thursday was a great workout and active day for me. It started with the 25 min workout of Slim N 6 and then I worked in the yard from about 8:30-1:00. This consisted of mowing our lawn, weeding my front flower bed, trimming the lilac bushes, flushing out the gophers(thats right they're back) and hoeing out my back flower bed. I then rode my bike over to a friends house to do the workout video again but we ended up passing on that. I was an awesome day and I felt like I had so much energy. Then on Friday I was so sore I couldn't work out and Saturday I woke up sick and now I am still sick with a stuffed up nose and sore throat. Not fun. I guess I over did it on Thursday.

running with a friend
I got up and went running with Cyndi this morning. It was beautiful out and it was really nice to run with someone. We synced our ipods so the podrunner workouts were the same. We did a 30 minute walk/run workout. I'm not sure the distance and now after 5 hours of a dance recital tonight I'm too tired to try and figure it out.

2.5 miles and Slim in 6
I ran this morning with my friend Kelly for about 2 miles and then I ran to my friend Lauras who is letting me borrow her Slim in 6 workout videos. The run was so nice. It was humid but we went at a light pace and it seemed over before it began. I then did the first day of Slim in 6 which was tougher than I expected. I'm not sure why but for some reason I always feel like I am really fit even though I am not. Well this video confirmed the real situation. It wasn't bad at first but then I couldn't get my breathing under control and when I was doing the squats and lunges my legs started shaking. Now for the kicker. The workout is only 25 minutes long. haha. Well gotta starts somewhere right?

Running in Hagerman
So I finally went running here. All of you have been showing me up. I am so proud of Melissa especiallly for getting out and running and exercising alot. Yeah Melissa. So back to running... I finally went running while here in Hagerman. It was about 65 degrees outside with a slight breeze and beautiful. I went up to the stoplight down to the shop around the loop and then around the park once in under 20 minutes. I ran most of the way with a little bit of walking in between. The worst part of the run was the bugs that where beginning to come out but other then that it was good to get out again. The best part was I didn't see any snakes which will make any day better.
Wii Running
I didn't make it outside for a run today because I was determined to get all of the laundry done. Not the best of excuses but if you had seen the mounds of laundry just waiting and begging to be washed you would understand. I'm almost done with the laundry and now it's too late to go out for a run. I did run with the wii fit today. I did the island lap for the first time. I've determined it is a lot harder to run in place for 12 minutes than to be moving forward. My legs were killing. I guess a little workout is better than no workout. Any one know how long the island lap is suppose to be on the wii fit??

Saturday Runs in Boise
I have a really good friend in Meridian who had a great idea of running on the Greenbelt in Boise on Saturday mornings. We have been trying to coordinate our schedules for a few weeks and this morning was the first time we ran. It was wonderful. We ran two miles and went a total of 3 miles. It felt really good this morning. I wore my new running skirt and running shoes. I can't believe how big of a difference a good pair of shoes makes. I always forget when I am running with the old ones until the first few runs with the New Shoes. The greenbelt runs beside the river and is a paved path that is beautiful at all times during the day. We went at a slower pace to start which was nice for my legs after swimming the other day in Hagerman. I just absolutely love running. I can't say that enough. We had a lot of fun chatting and I think it will become a routine for us to go every Saturday Morning. It was also a lot of fun because Craig came down with us. He has been really supportive with getting me the new shoes and skirt so I have no excuses. All I can say is Great Job Running today Kelly, Craig, and myself of course.

The first podrunner workout
This morning Alyvia was so sweet to wake me at 5:45 screaming "MOMMA". I love those mornings and nights(please note the sarcasm). Actually today I did because once I got her calmed down I went running. It was a great morning for it. I haven't been able to go all week because we have either had bad rain or thunder every night so I have ran with the wii and did my k-bell workout. Which wasn't bad since I love that workout. It kills but you see results right away (you feel them too). So back to the running. I really need to drive over Mt. Everest Jr. so that I can start without my calf muscles killing me. I downloaded a week one of 5k training music from podrunner.com. I LOVE IT!! I didnt' make it through the whole workout but I did make it through 2 miles of alternativing running and walking. Chek out http://www.podrunner.com/
Now I need to play mom and get Eme ready for school and then get a shower and some breakfast.

Tuesday....Yard Work
Today I woke up early and attacked my side yard. We had weeds growing over there that were probably about 4 feet tall. I know HUGE. I didn't go running this morning but I was out in the yard for about 3hours working. I figure that gives me a good workout for my hamstrings, glutes and back muscles. I am planning on going for a run tomorrow morning after my overtime shift from 6am-8am. Hope every one has a fantastic Tuesday. Cynthia

Monday run
I went running today, about 4 miles pushing Violet in the resistant blue stroller. Kade was on his bike. It was beautiful outside! We ran to the gym where I lifted weights for an hour or so and then ran/walked home. My endurance is shrinking rapidly and I want to blame it on being very nearly 5 months preggars but I think I'm just a wuse today. I do much better when not pushing a child but I didn't get up early enough to run by myself. Tomorrow is spin class.
sore bum
I went down to logan and we rode bikes on saturday. My butt muscles are still sore so this is a good indication to me that I definately need to do more biking. I bought a pump so I can pump up the back tire on my bike then I will be able to ride it to class and I am buying a six month swimming pass at 1000 springs tomorrow so I can go swim all the time as long as they are open. YEAH!!! Good job on the running Melis that is awesome. You should attach leashes to your kids and the stroller and help them pull it up see if it works better. We need to decide on a day to do our run so we can put it on the calendar. I think we should also have some sort of celebration afterwards to celebrate our achievements. Let me know what you think.
This entry was actually from May 24, 2009
I made it out on Saturday for another run. This one didn’t go as well as the first time. First off my legs were sore from Thursdays run and the first hill sesemed twice as hard. Secondly I took three major exercise buzz kills with me. There are some times when going out walking with your kids is a great thing…this wasn’t one of them. Pushing the stroller up over Mt. Everest Jr.(that’s it’s new name) was made harder by the pain in my calf muscles and the two other kids that thought holding on to it made it easier to push. Yep the extra weight is always helpful. I think the kids were worn out by the time we climbed Mt. Everest Jr. and the pittered out about 1/4 the way through the jog. By the time we got home they were ready for naps. I personally was ready for the pool. Too bad it still looked like swamp water.
I was talking today with a friend of mine who has also started running and we were discussing how everything, even the cheeks on your face jiggle when you run. She said she sometimes worries about how much her butt shakes up and down when she runs and I told her that I personally just hope mine is only shaking up and down and that there isn’t so much back there that it goes sideways too.

The date for this was actually May, 21, 2009 I want to be able to post all of my runs and so I should start with the first.
I went to my ob/gyn this past week and he pretty much said that if I like to eat I should run. Not a new concept, I’ve thought of it before and actually done and enjoyed it. Of course that was before I had kids. Running with kids isn’t as fun unless they are strapped in. J
So to make a long story short I was feeling frustrated and down all day and bedtime with the kids didn’t make things any better so I went running. For those of you who are carrying around less than an extra 30 pounds and live in flatter areas this won’t seem like a big deal. But I have to start my workouts by walking over what sometimes feels like Mt. Everest before I can reach flat ground and we won’t discuss how many extra pounds I’m carrying. I walked over the first hill(0.2miles) and then jogged the next 0.5 miles and finished my workout by walking over the other hill that isn’t as steep but is longer(0.3miles). So I did 1.2 miles in under 20 minutes. Most of that time was spent trecking over the mountains because I ran the half mile in close to 5 minutes.
So now to the subject…after three kids I need to make sure I go to the bathroom before I leave home or wear depends. It’s a good thing I had on a light pad since it’s getting close to that monthly time.

Biking And Tennis
Today I woke up and went for a bike ride to a park about a mile away with tennis courts. It felt so good to be riding my bike and then Craig and I played tennis for about one hour and rode back home. I absolutely love being active and I have plans to do something like this every morning. Since I work in the afternoons it works great.
Running in Depends
Well here it goes. This site is dedicated to be a running diary for the four Stewart ladies. Melissa Nielsen, Kathy Bateman, Teresa Stewart, and Cynthia Shannon. The name comes by inspiration from Melissa. Enjoy and get running.
